Product Description
PTFE & Polyethylene FTIR &IR Sample Cards
NATIONAL has brought back the 3M card, which we manufacture under a license from Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company. PTFE and polyethylene IR sample cards provide inexpensive disposable sample substrates for qualitative analysis. The 2 x 4 cards mount vertically in the universal slide mount in any spectrophotometer. The cards have a clear aperture of 19mm and space is provided to write on the card to identify the date of the analysis, the sample and the name of the analyst. The cards are sold in packages of 10, 25 and 50 and the polyethylene cards are also available with two sample substrates.
PTFE and Polyethylene cards exhibit absorbance bands in the 4400 to 400 CM-1 spectral range. Absorbance spectra of the cards are shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 below.Real Crystal IR Sample Cards which do not exhibit any absorbance peaks are also available.

Chemically Inert and Highly TransparentThe FTIR & IR Sample Cards feature PTFE or polyethylene films, ensuring excellent resistance to acids, bases, and solvents. With over 85% transmission in their specified IR range, these cards enable enhanced clarity for spectroscopic analysis. Their high-quality materials provide both durability and consistent optical performance for a variety of laboratory settings.
Simple Handling and Universal CompatibilityOptimized for ease of use, each sample card is manufactured in a standard slide format, making them compatible with most FTIR and IR spectrometer cell holders. The pure, filler-free films facilitate quick sample placement and removal, ensuring uninterrupted workflows in research and industrial laboratories.
FAQs of PTFE & Polyethylene FTIR &IR Sample Cards:
Q: How are PTFE & Polyethylene FTIR & IR Sample Cards typically used in spectroscopic analysis?
A: These sample cards are primarily utilized to hold solid, liquid, or powdered samples for transmission measurements in FTIR and IR spectroscopy. Their high transparency and chemical inertness enable accurate analysis of various substances, including acids, solvents, and bases, without interference.
Q: What benefits do pure PTFE and polyethylene films provide in this application?
A: Pure PTFE and polyethylene films deliver superior optical clarity and chemical resistance. This results in high spectral transmission (over 85%) and minimal background interference, improving the precision and reliability of IR and FTIR measurements.
Q: When should these sample cards be replaced?
A: The cards should be replaced every two years or sooner if physical degradation, contamination, or spectral anomalies are observed. Proper storage in a dry, room-temperature environment can help ensure they retain their optical and physical integrity throughout their shelf life.
Q: Where can these FTIR & IR Sample Cards be used?
A: They are well-suited for research laboratories, quality control departments, academic institutions, and industrial settings where IR or FTIR analysis is conducted. Their standard dimensions allow easy use in all compatible spectroscopic instruments.
Q: What is the correct process for preparing a sample with these cards?
A: To prepare a sample, simply apply the test substance onto the film, avoiding direct contact with hands or contaminated surfaces. Place the card in the FTIR cell holder, ensuring a clean, flat installation for optimal measurement results. After analysis, clean or dispose of the card according to laboratory protocols.
Q: Are these cards compatible with all FTIR cell holders?
A: Yes, these cards are designed in a standard slide format (76 mm 25 mm 1 mm), suitable for use with standard FTIR and IR spectrometer holders, ensuring broad equipment compatibility.
